Hillary Clinton mocks Donald Trump over his '3-0' travel ban defeat

Publish date: 2024-06-05

Trump was quick off the mark when he tweeted his reaction to the federal appeals court refusing to reinstate his travel ban, but his former rival Hillary Clinton was not far behind.

The panel of three judges from the San Francisco-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals declined to block a lower-court ruling that suspended the ban and allowed previously barred travellers from seven predominantly Muslim nations to enter the US.

Moments after the court's ruling, President Trump shouted on Twitter:  "SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!"

The tweet provoked a frenzied response on social media, with users mocking his statement and use of Twitter.

SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!

The former Democratic presidential candidate was succinct in her reply, choosing not to use caps, or indeed letters. "3-0," she tweeted,  an apparent reference the 3-0 vote by the court.

Mrs Clinton's response split opinion on Twitter. While some praised her, others pointed to her two presidential campaign defeats.

Other social media users weighed in on Mr Trump's response, especially his use of capital letters:

Question: if it's true that Trump dictates his tweets, how does one specify ALL CAPS? Or is it an accurate representation of him yelling?

THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION'S LEGAL BRIEF SHOULD USE ALL CAPS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS TO UNDERSCORE THAT THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!

Trump's Tweet shrewdly reflects little known Marbury v. Madison footnote: 'We take notice that ALL CAPS greatly strengthens any argument."

The president's vow to "see you in court" after losing a court case also proved as talking point, with the American Civil Liberties Union quick to say they'd be happy to see him there.

Telling Judges "I'll see you in court" is like telling Batman "I'll see you in a dark alley."

"I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT!" is really the worst thing to yell after you just lost in court

Shouting "I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT!" after losing in court feels like a classic Gene Wilder bit in a Mel Brooks movie

— Psy Costanza (@J_Holla) February 10, 2017

Trump Tweeting I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT right after losing in court is like The Falcons telling Tom Brady post game WE"LL SEE YOU ON THE FIELD!

And some high profile Democrats, including Eric Holder, the former US attorney general under President Obama, and US Senator Al Franken, were in such a rush to react, they didn't have time to check their spelling.

Trump has suggested he will appeal the case to the Supreme Court.
