It's 80 years to the day that John Lennon was born. The music legend is most famed for his role in the Beatles, but his career entailed so much more before his murder in 1980.

1. He was named after Winston Churchill
When he was born in 1940, Lennon was named John after his grandfather and Winston after British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
2. Family tragedy
Lennon's parents separated when he was four years old. He didn't see his father for as long as 16 years. His mother died after being run over.
3. He founded and named The Beatles
Lennon was the one who invited Paul McCartney to join his band, filling it with other friends from school.
4. The Beatles' manager was in love with him
Brian Epstein, the so-called fifth Beatle, confessed that he was completely in love with Lennon to journalist Michael Thornton.
5. He starred in a film in Spain
In 1966, Lennon travelled to Almeria for the shooting of the film 'How I won the war'.
