Woolworths customers stunned by electronic price tags
One supermarket giant is ditching paper tickets in exchange for electronic price tags.
Woolworths began trialling the new system in select stores last year, with customers getting excited over the change the paperless prices become more frequent.
One customer, @ben_gibson, took to TikTok to share his shock, with many of his followers excited over the news.
“Well as someone who has worked in retail 10 years … good riddance! I’m so sick of changing tags,” one person said.
Another added: “They’ve had this in New Zealand for ages, but finally Woolies has come to the playing board with saving trees and time!”

One Big W worker, which is part of the Woolworths Group, said the tags were now being trialled at her work and it’s made life a lot easier.
Some customers expressed concern about employees losing work, but many current employees disputed that.
A Woolworths spokesman told news.com.au: “Last year we began trialling electronic shelf labels in select stores.
“These electronic labels are designed to reduce paper, update the latest prices and specials in real time and reduce manual ticketing to allow our team to focus on serving customers and replenishing shelves.
“We’ll continue to gather more feedback over the coming months.”
The change was announced last year.
One shopper took to a popular Facebook group at the time to share her disapproval over the yellow tags which were no longer large and hanging over the top of former full-price tags, but instead were the same size.
“One of our new stores has this and I agree with you, I don’t like them either,” one social media user said when another customer first spotted them.
“When you look down the aisle, you don’t see the different colour but you can clearly see the longer tickets. When I first went there I didn’t bother buying things I thought were on sale as when I looked down the aisle I didn’t see the bigger ticket,” a second person added.

However, others couldn’t quite grasp the problem and they welcomed the change.
“It’s such a waste of paper and messy,” one person said about the former tags. “Learn to live with change.”
“They have a yellow sticker still so I don’t get why it’s so hard,” said another, while a third wrote: “I like it – they won’t get ripped off like the hanging ones.”
